    Students will explore songwriting techniques, using both lyrical and musical concepts. Students will have the opportunity to workshop lyrics and/or music that they have composed, as well as receive prompts for songwriting as ways to get past writer’s block and feel great about their creative efforts. Students will make beats, explore various effects, and learn how to record themselves to get the best-sounding results possible. Class will focus on the production of original songs, from the writing through demo recording. We will focus on form, lyrics, chord progressions, and simple technology and production skills. Students learn basic concepts of recording, mixing, and production. Students will learn the fundamentals of MIDI recording and how to best use it in practice.
